What were you looking for in a venue? Discovered through the GABS festival, we liked the beers, and asked if they could host our event. We frequented Molly Rose and absolutely loved their beers and ambience. Budgets, making decisions, inviting guests? We didn’t necessarily start with a budget. We talked through all aspects of the wedding together and naturally took responsibility for different aspects of the wedding. We discussed where we would take quality over frugality, and vice versa. Because we decided that it would be a small event with close family and friends, in a way, it made the decision-making process easier, as our options were already limited. What was your vision for the day and how did you choose your style? Why was this important to you? We wanted every moment to be very personal, as we only invited those who are closest to us and because we are not the most outgoing people. We wanted the flowers to have impact but not be overpowering or tacky. I always had an image of it being very natural with lots of green and a bit of muted colour. We also wanted to keep the whole event and decor of the event low maintenance, because that’s how we live our everyday lives. I’ve always loved flowers. It was a past time that I have fond memories with my late grandmother and my auntie. My grandmother always had beautiful flowers in the garden and arrangements throughout the house. When putting on events, floral arrangements were at the forefront. Our close family friend, similar to Bree, brought our visions to life without much direction being given, and took our breath away every time. The planning process was stress free as Bree was extremely transparent with the costs, the availability of flowers and the possibilities of what the florals would look like on the day of. Her knowledge, authenticity, clarity and friendliness made the entire process a comfortable one. In what ways do you feel the floral designs contributed to the overall atmosphere of your day? Effortlessly brought the space together. A real vision, so abundantly full of beautiful flowers and foliage that worked in perfect harmony. And how it popped against Matt's button hole was just unreal! What were you looking for in a venue? My family knows the manager Carl and the events planner Federica from a cafe they used to run in Northcote. We absolutely loved their customer service and knew they would help us plan and run an amazing event. We love the authentic Italian vibe that comes with the venue, alongside the great food and open space that made it so easy to cater for all ages at our event, from babies to the nonni! What was your plan of attack for the planning process? Budgets, making decisions, inviting guests? We set a budget based on our first son, Massimo’s christening. I initially wanted to keep it intimate but my husband wanted to invite the extended family which ended up being around 70 people! I basically just kept it as simple as possible with the styling, knowing how impactful beautiful flowers can be and a basic backdrop to set them on. What was your vision for the day and how did you choose your style? Why was this important to you? I knew I wanted a blue theme and really wanted to showcase florals for the event. For Massimo’s christening I showcased balloons, so I really wanted to make it different for Matteo. I basically came across some inspiration images online and got in contact with April & Fritz, and Bree took it from there! I love the look of fresh flowers. I feel like it can really elevate a room and give it a wow factor. As the christening is quite formal to us, we wanted to make the venue look extra special for our little man! What led you to choose April & Fritz for your floral design? Bree! Her eye for detail is exceptional. I trust her and wholeheartedly knew she would create the most beautiful arrangements for Matteo. From sending her a few pictures she was able to put together the most beautiful mood board to summarise what the arrangements would look like on the day. In the end, I basically just said you do your thing and that she did!! Could you share some insights into your planning process for the floral design? How did April & Fritz assist you in bringing your vision to life? I shared a few images of some different arrangements I liked but knew Bree would be able to take it to the next level. The images were all fake flowers which looked okay, but could not compare to the final product Bree put together on the day. She was able to send different options back and forth until it met our budget. It really lifted the room and was the showcase of the day. It was so beautiful seeing the flowers in all the photos as they weren’t only where the backdrop was, but Bree had strategically placed them throughout the room so it seemed as though there were beautiful flowers to look back on in every photo! Everywhere you looked there was a touch of flowers throughout the space, which really made it look extra lux. Were there any specific moments or details related to the floral designs that stood out to you? I absolutely loved the two flower clouds that were the main focus of the day around the backdrop and cake. The arrangements were so beautiful and really looked like they were floating. It was the perfect frame for photos. What’s some advice you would give to other families looking to create their own event for their child? Focus on the colours and vibe you’re going after and send it through to Bree. She comes up with the most beautiful arrangements and is more than happy to send different options to help you make your decision. Anything else you’d like to share? I really recommend adding fresh flowers from April and Fritz to your event. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone back and looked at the photos, absolutely doting over the flowers! They also have wonderful views and an excellent food and drink package! What was your plan of attack for the planning process? Budgets, making decisions, inviting guests? The event is a Mother’s Day lunch (although it goes into the evening!) that we run as a fundraiser for our local primary school. The money we raise from these events is integral to what we can offer within the school but the event is also an excellent opportunity to celebrate mums/caregivers in the community. Because it is a fundraising event budgeting is extremely tight. We have been running the event for four years now and always want to raise as much money as possible while also creating a fun and special event. What was your vision for the day and how did you choose your style? Why was this important to you? This is an opportunity for 200 plus of our mums/caregivers to let their hair down and feel special so this is what we always want from our event. What were you looking for in a venue? The first time we visited Baie Wines was for a ‘Baie Insider’ tasting. We absolutely fell in love with the property itself - stunning views of the water, the full rows of vines and the tree lined driveway - we pretty much decided then and there that we would like to get married at Baie. Most importantly, we have a small pup who we wanted to be part of our wedding day. The first question we asked was "do you allow dogs on the property for weddings?”, we were very relieved to hear the answer was yes! We hosted our reception at my (Alisha’s) parent’s home. This was really special because it was the family home so there were so many memories there already, and having our favourite people there to celebrate meant the world to us. What was your plan of attack for the planning process? Budgets, making decisions, inviting guests? Knowing that we were keeping it small, and in the spirit of the stress-free and fun wedding we wanted, we didn’t really set a budget. We had some ideas around things that we didn’t want to spend outrageously on, but we didn’t want to compromise on anything either. We made all our decisions together (and a tracking spreadsheet, of course) except for the wedding dress and suit. Why was this important to you? We had talked a bit about eloping and wanting to keep stress to an absolute minimum. We really just wanted to have fun and enjoy the day. That said, we also didn’t want to miss out on sharing the day with our families so we chatted to the crew at Big Love Elopements and landed on a small elopement ceremony which gave us our stress-free and fun day, with our families. I had been to 1915 a couple of times and loved it, and when I took my (now!!) husband there, he also fell in love with the sheer grandeur of the building too. The food and drinks there are absolutely to die for, and we loved that we were able to have our whole wedding at the one location and split it over a variety of spaces within the venue. Budgets, making decisions, inviting guests? Firstly, we came up with a guest list, which was very extensive, and then, once we confirmed that 1915 was able to cater for this list, we locked it in. From there, we took recommendations on music, photography, flowers, makeup, hair, cake, etc., and kind of built the whole event around that. Recommendations work… we couldn’t have asked for a more incredible group of vendors to deliver the day we dreamed of! Could you share some insights into your planning process for the floral design? How did April & Fritz assist you in bringing your vision to life? I came to Bree with a photo of a bouquet that I loved, and Bree really guided our vision from there. She came to us with the most detailed mood board following our first consultation, and we were so happy with how it looked that we just ticked it off with her there and then. My bouquet was simply divine. The gorgeous collection of flowers that Bree produced worked so well together, and it was perfect for my dress. We wanted a stylish family celebration, suitable for a young adult, and the chosen location. With that in mind, what inspired you to select Holgate Brewhouse as the location for your daughter's birthday party? The Holgate Brewhouse is well known and our family has spent a lot of time there over the years, particularly Isabelle’s dad and uncle. The appeal of the location, which was convenient for family traveling from regional locations, was a consideration for our decision too. The space allowed us to create a relaxed environment for Isabelle’s celebration with ample room to accommodate our guests and facilities with AV capability. We loved that the space had beautiful stained glass windows at the front and a fireplace which really created a warm atmosphere for everyone to enjoy together. Why did you decide to include floral arrangements as part of your daughter's eighteenth birthday celebration? As a young adult Isabelle wanted a stylish celebration of her milestone birthday. We originally discussed large balloon arrangements, but made the choice to have flower arrangements instead. Not only was this a softer choice overall, but a more environmentally friendly one. Researching options and previous work by April & Fritz, I was attracted to the simplicity and style of the arrangements Head Designer, Bree, had created. I was also keen to support a female entrepreneur in her endeavours to establish a small business too. Could you share some insights into your planning process for the floral design? How did April & Fritz assist you in bringing your vision to life? Isabelle shared a brief with Bree of the look and feel she was after. Based on Isabelle’s inspiration, Bree offered a few options with different flower selections, colour schemes and alternative arrangements to have the greatest impact in the space. It was particularly exciting because Bree suggested different arrangements that we wouldn’t have thought of ourselves - like the ‘flower meadow’ cake - so we were really looking forward to working with her! Her ability to offer different solutions, yet achieve the same goal was really appreciated. We had absolute trust in Bree that she understood our brief and could work with the floral investment we allocated for this event. The bud vase arrangements, candles, and ‘flower meadow’ cake achieved a stylish yet simple theme suitable for a young adult. The softness of her arrangements was complimentary to the room and relaxed atmosphere we were wanting to create. Were there any specific moments or details related to the floral designs by April & Fritz that stood out to you during the celebration? The ‘flower meadow’ cake was a beautiful addition Bree had suggested. There were many comments about the cake and the integration of the overall style of the event. We love that she worked directly with our cake maker to design the ‘flower meadow’, ensuring it worked with the cake and overall look we were going for. Not only that, the cake was absolutely delicious. For those planning milestone celebrations and considering floral arrangements, what advice would you offer regarding the incorporation of flowers and working with a floral designer like April & Fritz? Bree was a delight to work with. She understood the brief, provided inspiration and offered options within our allocated floral investment to make the most impact. My daughter is absolutely obsessed with Cocomelon so it was a no brainer to make that the theme. But I still wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing, so keeping the colours very pastel and girly was important. It was a tricky balance to achieve but I leant on my vendors for support and they really delivered this vision. With that in mind, what inspired you to select 1915 as the location for your daughter's first birthday party? My husband and I visited a lot of venues around geelong that could cater for soft play and a jumping castle. From the first meeting with the event planners at 1915 we knew we would have it there. Not only is the venue stunning but we always book with the suppliers that have a warmth about them and are super welcoming! Why did you decide to include floral arrangements as part of your daughter's first birthday celebration? I think flowers are an important part of any celebration, they add beauty and symbolize growth and happiness! That said, it was something I really debated whether to include or not, especially for a first birthday, as initially I wanted it to be simple and not go over the top. But after speaking through my thoughts with Bree she made me feel so comfortable with my vision and decision to go ahead. Bree was extremely responsive and it made the whole process seamless, which was very welcome when I was already working with a handful of suppliers. From the initial discussion with Bree, we have built a long-lasting relationship and I already can't wait to plan my next event with her! Could you share some insights into your planning process for the floral design? How did April & Fritz assist you in bringing your vision to life? I sent Bree a handful of inspiration photos that I felt captured the look and feel I was going for. Not knowing if the florals would be in season, she ran through each picture with me and explained which flowers we could use and what other floral substitutions we could potentially use instead. Unfortunately, hydrangeas were not in season and they were a key part of the designs I liked. Bree was able to come up with the lovely idea of substituting them for silk hydrangeas instead and it was so perfect as I kept them after the event. It was such a nice touch to be able to bring some of the party home with us. They’re now displayed in my daughter’s room and when I see them I’m transported back to the day celebrating with friends and family, which brings me so much joy. I had so many compliments from my guests and from the staff working at 1915. Bree has a special way of making her florals unique and really capturing everyone's attention in the best possible way. What was your vision for the evening, and how did you choose your style? I wanted sexy, romantic, special and wintery. I wanted people to feel like leaving the house in the middle of July was not only worth it, but comforting and cozy. How did the floral designs enhance the overall atmosphere of your event? It completely set the mood of the event and had guests feel special that they were a part of such ambiance! It was an intimate guest list and I think the floral designs helped encapsulate a private exclusive feel. What was your plan of attack during the design process? How did April & Fritz help? I wanted it to feel a certain way. I knew how to describe this but had no idea of how to specifically curate it with flowers. Bree took the time to meet with me in person and spend time listening to me explain the feeling I wanted to achieve. She then went away and advised on how we could best achieve this with a full plan of attack; with a mood board which included examples of arrangements, what extras we would need (candles etc) and costs to execute.
